1 Year Old

Emmit is 1! Emmit is the sweetest little boy - full of hugs and kisses and smiles and laughs. He is seriously the most photogenic kid (see below) and such a little ham for the camera. One year can seem like a really long time, but when it's the first year, it's crazy how fast it goes.

At one, Emmit is a walking machine. Of course, he has his share of falls, but for the most part he's all over the place now on his own two feet. He loves climbing up stairs and onto things. He'll climb up on the step stools in the bathrooms, stand right up, and peek over the counter to look at himself in the mirror. He LOVES to throw things - anything. Balls, food, cups, forks, anything he's holding. He's a little difficult to take shopping right now, because his favorite thing to do is pull stuff out of the cart and throw it on the ground. Over the last 2 weeks Emmit has gotten his first boy toys, and he loves them! It was baby stuff for a long time, and then he was just playing with Ellie's things (which he really didn't mind either). His new Caterpillar dumptruck and tool kit are sure fun now though! =)

Emmit is a really good eater; he pretty much eats everything we do. He suddenly isn't liking green beans anymore, but other than that, he shovels food in like a champ! He's started drinking a little milk too, but isn't quite sure what to think of it yet. His favorite foods are definitely banana, any sort of pasta and meat/tomato sauce, grapes, jello, and pancakes. He'll eat as many pancakes for breakfast as Colin or I sometimes!

Emmit likes music and dancing. He'll bounce up and down or bob his head; he likes to dance! He's also really liking his ability to face forward in the car now...he and Ellie both bop along to music together when we're out and about.

Emmit has just a couple words so far - 'Mama' and 'uh-oh'. He'll nod his head yes or no though too. He's also learned to sign 'more' which he uses as the dinner table most often =)

Emmit loves to chase, be chased, and rough house with Daddy and Ellie. He'll jump right in the action forgetting how little he is at times. He'll also 'run' circles around the house chasing after Ellie. They are starting to play pretty well together now, though sharing is usually an issue. Emmit can throw a fit when he's mad, and the thing that makes him mad most often is Ellie taking something from him or not getting his way. He loves to go outside, so will throw a fit when it's time to come in. Or if he wants into a room and you close the door, he doesn't like that either. He'll grab onto the gate and shake it if he wants to go upstairs. He can definitely throw a fit when he's mad, but thankfully, that's not too often.

Emmit still has 6 teeth (4 top, 2 bottom), but it seems like more might be coming as he's been biting a lot again. Between Ellie and now Emmit, the edge of the crib has teeth imprints just about all the way around. I guess it feels good to bit on a wooden railing!

Emmit's 1 year check-up won't be a few weeks yet, so we'll have to wait on his stats. Carrying him for any length of time though will convince you that he's BIG, and I have biceps to show for it =)
