2 Weeks

Emmit had his 2 week check-up at the Dr. yesterday, and he is a growing boy! He's up to 8 lbs, 15 oz. (75th percentile), 21 1/2 inches long (75th percentile), and 39 cm (90th percentile) head so he is growing good. The Dr. commented on how strong he is - he's holding his head really well already. He likes to arch his back and almost roll to his right side already too. I think he's going to be an early roller like his sister was. So far, Emmit is a very easy-going little guy; he sleeps all the time, and unlike his sister who liked to be held all the time, Emmit will sleep just about anywhere. There are times when he doesn't even want to be held...he just wants to stretch out on his own. If he's crying it ususally means one of 2 things - 'I'm hungry' or 'I'm dirty - get this diaper off me NOW!' If those 2 problems are solved, he is content, and if not right back to sleep, he's just hanging out alert and calm. Emmit is even giving us some wonderful stretches of sleep at night already. He usually has a 5 hour stretch (did 6 one time already too!), but the trick is just getting it to start at the right time so Mom & Dad can take advantage. Last night it started at 7:00 pm, so that wasn't ideal, but when it's closer to 9:00 pm, we usually only have to get up with him once at night which is really nice. Hopefully the wonderful sleeping continues...it's so nice having energy and not feeling like a zombie walking around =)

So, Emmit is amazingly easy which is nice, because all remaining energy we spend keeping up with Ellie. When we first came home, she was very curious about 'baby'...wanting to touch him and be by him all the time. Over the last week though she seemed to have a little jealous streak, acting out, throwing tantrums, and getting into some new mischief (the fav is climbing up on and standing on the kitchen table - great, huh!) She hasn't had any problem with Emmit sleeping in the crib, which is where I thought some jealousy might come since that was our most recent transition for her. But instead it's when he's getting his 'baba' or has a 'num num' - she likes to pull them out of his mouth and put them in hers. We try to limit Ellie's 'num num' (nuk) to nap and nighttime, so when baby has his any other time, that's an issue. On Sunday, Ellie managed to wack Emmit in the head with the remote, so we decided a change of scenery was needed. So, we took a little impromptu road trip down to Madison to see Shannon, Andy, and Steph for the night. We had a fun time, and Ellie had a lot of fun playing at the park, jumping on the bed, and sleeping with Auntie Stephi for the night. Since we got back on Monday, Ellie's seemed to taking a little more liking to brother - calling him 'my baby' and being noticeably nicer. Hopefully we're on the upswing!
